Leadlights Ensemble
Calling all creative New Yorkers!
Leadlights, a chamber collective based in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood, is seeking brand new, 2-minute “Miniature” scores for string quartet by locals of all ages and experience.
Submissions will be featured on our Spring 2024 “Sounds of New York” event, with the opportunity for an additional performance of selected works during the 2024-25 season.
Submission Requirements:
• “Miniature” – 2 Minutes or less in length
• Scored for String Quartet (2 violins, viola, and cello), or playable with that instrumentation –
May also include audience or recorded audio components:
• Inspired by a personal or collective experience of hope and/or new beginnings from the past 3 years
• Brand new piece that Leadlights can premiere
• Final deadline for submissions: January 15, 2024
We are seeking a wide range of scores in any format, from graphic scores to traditionally notated works. We welcome submissions by anyone from the New York area, from elementary school students and community members without musical training, to seasoned composers. As a community-based organization, we are especially interested in amplifying the creative voices of local Washington Heights residents.

Notes: We intend to feature live performances of all submissions. However, in the event of an overwhelming number of submissions, Leadlights members reserve the right to choose selected works for live performance, and share the remaining scores in graphic format with the public via our website and social media. Leadlights is unable to offer cash prizes or compensation in return for any scores.
