Elizabeth Keckley (1818-1907) was born a slave in Virginia. Her exceptional sewing, designing, and dressmaking talents earned her both freedom and fame as the premier fashion designer for 19th century governmental wives; even in the midst of the Civil War. As exclusive dressmaker for Mary Todd Lincoln, we enter the hearts and minds of the President and Mrs. Lincoln. Hang onto your seat as we follow along in “Lizzie’s” storied journey from South to North, and everywhere in between. From slave quarters to the upper crust of society, hers is a treacherous path of beauty, triumph, and tragedy. A one woman play with special guests.
